Thoughts on This Blog

Should I publish this? Probably not. Am I going to publish this? Most definitely. Part of my purpose is to show the stepping stones along the way. I don't want to wait until I consider myself successful, with the air quotes, of course, to let others know what I am learning. I won't even get into what defines successful. Successful can simply be anything you accomplish.

My very favorite things include figuring out ways to make a process more efficient. I like observing a process then reorganizing the moving parts like a game of Tetris. The starting point is hard for me. I'm not alone. Starting something new is hard. It's new.

Loosely related to the process of completing a project, only because it includes information about writing a book, which interests me, is Author Jon Acuff's "All It Takes is a Goal" podcast episode 83 entitled, "5 Steps I use to write New York Times Best Sellers." I think I like the steps partially because I always have ideas running in the background of my mind like those updates on the computer.

1. Find a question you’re willing to spend years answering.

2. Collect ideas.

3. Write in layers.

4. Edit. Edit. Edit.

5. Sell the book.

Here's how this translates into working through a project. First, what interests you? What is the one thing that you can't stop thinking about? It has to be something that sparks joy of some kind for you, because you might be spending a lot of time doing it. Next, what is it going to look like? This is where the ideas come in. Find a friend to bounce ideas off of to develop your ideas. Develop your idea in layers. For me, I want to focus more time on writing this blog. I want it to be beautiful, which means I will need to change the layout to be more pleasing to the eye. I want to include pictures. More importantly, I want to include my own images, which means developing a photography skill. Along the way, I will change or edit the product of my work, because I will figure out what works for me and what I like. Lastly, I will share it with people like you, my reader.

Also, if you aren't following Jon Acuff, go ahead and get to that. Also, read or listen to his books. The way he breaks ideas down is easy to follow and draws me back for more.
